House
concerts are contemporary versions of an age old tradition.
Hosts offer hospitality to traveling storytellers, musicians and
troubadours. They also provide a venue to perform so they can honorably
earn
traveling money on their journeys between the homes of the landed
gentry (now "gigs").
Hosts invite
friends and neighbors to a party and the guests help support the
travelers by putting money in the pot in exchange for an evening's
entertainment. This format works especially well for acoustic folk
music, which began in people's homes and is meant to be enjoyed
in the intimacy of a small gathering.
"It was
always our intent to make this a neighborly thing. Click
here to get on our e-mail invite list, and we'll let you know
when concerts are planned. One
of the advantages of our new home in Scotia is a large living room
that can hold 35-40 people! Sometimes we sell out, but there will
always be room for a particularly fine performer in our home."
